Welcome to the April 2010 edition of The Point, ValueClick Media's newsletter for advertisers. In this issue we reveal the results of our annual advertiser survey and provide an update on our mobile solutions. Survey Finds ValueClick Media Among Top Performing Networks

As reported recently in the Huffington Post, according to the 8th Annual Myers Survey of Advertising Executives on Online Sites and Sales Organization Attributes, ValueClick Media was one of the top three networks mentioned as offering the greatest value for the investment among 40 online web sites and ad networks. The report is one of three published recently by the Jack Myers Media Business Report.

2009 Advertiser Survey Results

Last December we invited you to participate in our annual survey for advertisers and the results are in! A few highlights include:


  • When asked to identify the most important types of campaign targeting when working with an ad network, 64% of respondents selected Behavioral targeting.
  • The majority of survey takers (44%) reported spending up to 24% of their annual budget on ad networks in 2009. Another 27% reported spending up to 49% of their annual budget on ad networks.
  • Your top sources for news and information about the online advertising industry are:
    • Advertising Age (66%)
    • eMarketer (56%)
    • Mediapost/OMMA (52%)
    • Adweek (49%)
  • Social media is on the rise, with 60% of survey takers reporting an increase of dollars spent on the medium in 2010. Another 49% will increase spending on SEM/SEO and 47% will invest more heavily in mobile solutions.

Upon completion of the survey, participants were entered into a random prize drawing for a chance to win either a Flip Camcorder or an iPod Touch. Congratulations to all of our winners!

Last month our very own Mike Chu was recognized as a finalist for AE of the Year as part of the IAB Sales Excellence Awards. The awards are based on the results of the Myers Annual Survey of Advertising Executives which asks marketers, agency buyers and planners to evaluate individual account executive performance. Congratulations, Mike!

Team Updates

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Kyle Lipson to VP, Performance Solutions. In his new role, Kyle will expand his scope to focus on enhancements to our targeting and optimization solutions.

Please welcome two new members to the ValueClick team, Adam Hearn and Tony Roche! Both Adam and Tony are senior account executives in the Midwestern region with 10+ years of experience. Tony comes to us from IAC where he worked on numerous sales initiatives. Before coming to ValueClick, Adam was a key member of the sales team at Specific Media in Chicago.

On the Vertical network side, Natasha Derow recently relocated to Los Angeles from New York. Natasha now serves the entire Western region for both AdRx Media and Moms Media. In addition, Senior Account Executive Tim Braz has shifted focus to the Vertical networks and will represent AdRx Media and Moms Media in the Eastern region. Carolyn Burbach has taken over the territory previously occupied by Tim while under ValueClick Media sales.

Vertical Networks Represented at iMedia Brand Summit

Our vertical networks national sales manager, Emily Angleton Keith, represented Moms Media and AdRx Media at the recent iMedia Brand Summit and brought back a few highlights to share with readers of The Point. A consistent theme of the conference was “making your brand human” and the importance of building customer loyalty and trust. “There were a lot of conversations around how social media can help brands build relationships with consumers,” she said. “It’s no longer just about getting the message out, it’s about gaining trust and favorability by listening to your consumers, their needs, values, complaints, suggestions and overall view of your product and company, making them feel heard and then taking their feedback and improving your product.” iMedia Brand Summits continue to provide a great forum for us to better understand the brand initiatives of our clients and to hear directly from them about how we can better serve their needs and those of their agencies.

Name: Joon Lee
Role: Account Executive, Southwest Region

How long have you been with ValueClick Media?
Since December 2008.

What's the favorite part of your job?
I love the teamwork that takes place here. It's extremely difficult to find a company where like-minded individuals can communicate effectively and on a daily basis to achieve a common goal. When needed, I know anyone on my team (including upper management), will always make sure my clients and the business I run with them is taken care of when I'm unavailable. Ultimately that’s what all companies look to achieve, but I can’t think of any other company that I've worked with that does it better.

What are the main factors that lead to a successful campaign?
Without question, the number one factor when it comes to driving performance is the expertise, guidance and partnership of our world-class account management team. ValueClick Media is different in comparison with our competitors in that not only do we have proprietary data, scale and quality, but those elements are coupled with 12 years of operational experience. With an average tenure of 5+ years, our account managers not only build and manage campaigns, but in most instances they work tirelessly with the account executive and directly with clients to help maximize performance and insights for future online initiatives. I am extremely fortunate to be working with such a talented and dedicated group of individuals.

Based on your experience, what differentiates ValueClick Media?
The most significant differentiator is our deep infrastructure and accumulated knowledge from having been in the online advertising space for so long. Very few companies have the mature technology platform, expertise and know-how to execute with the performance ValueClick Media offers. Think about it; when considering a doctor or a mechanic, we put heavy emphasis on the experience level of that individual. Why wouldn't you do the same when selecting an ad network partner?

Name one thing your clients don't know about you.
I used to read a lot, now I just listen to audio books. Don’t knock it till you try it :)
